A prescient Palestinian piece from 2019

Haidar Eid has republished an article from June 2019 that he wrote about Jared Kushner and his racist perspective on Palestinians.  Kushner represents that huge swathe of western leaders (political and otherwise) who do not see Palestinians and Israelis as equal human beings. Even now after three years of Israel pulverising the Gaza Strip, he still expects Hamas to disarm before Israel withdraws, ie he still sees Hamas and any resistance to Israeli domination as terrrorism and yet does not call out Israeli acts as war crimes, let alone genocide (or even “plausible” genocide).

In 2019, Haider Eid wrote “Kushner’s message is clear enough: Since you cannot trust Palestinians to run their own affairs, they should accept the “deal of the century” and their own enslavement to Israelis.  Kushner’s is an ideology that is not only racist, but also, Islamophobic, and Orientalist.”

It is sobering and disheartening to know that seven years on, despite all that Israel has done in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon and beyond, this view dominates the thinking of the western powers.
