A worthy winner for the Nobel Peace Prize

We know that Trump wanted it – and thought he deserved it (!!!). We know that Netanyahu made sure to nominate him, thereby  adding insult to literal injury to Palestinians.  However, the Nobel Peace Prize, has gone to South African Judge Navanethem (Navi) Pillay.  She has looked into a range of cases, for example on the Rwandan genocide, and  Gaza and is currently acting in a case looking into the accusation of genocide against Myanmar for its treatment of the Muslim Rohingya minority. Here Al Jazeera tells you more about her work and her background and why she was awarded the prize.

Israel’s reaction is predicatbly hysterical calling it a Grotesque weaponisation of award and said that “If there were an award for lies, hatred, and blood libels, Navi Pillay wouldn’t just be a contender. She’d be a frontrunner,”. The headline from Israel National News reads: ‘Goebbels is applauding’: Anti-Israel South African jurist awarded Nobel Peace Prize.

I think when a state committing genocide, ethnic cleansing and war crimes is angry, then this time we can feel confident that the prize went to a worthy winner.  Good news for those standing for justice and peace.
