Lenin, Ben-Gurion, and Hamas: On negotiated agreements and facts on the ground
JVL Introduction
Rootless Cosmopolitan blogger, Tony Karon, looks at the threat Trump’s Plan – produced in collusion with Israel –represents for Palestinian aspirations and Hamas’s succcessful negotiation of the first of the many treacherous traps it contains.
He writes:
“Still, Hamas, in its response to Trump’s plan, appears to have recognized the logic of “accepting” a paper, or at least parts of what’s written on a paper, without accepting its underlying goals: The core immediate elements of the Trump plan — return of all captives in exchange for cessation of hostilities, restoration of humanitarian aid from credible international agencies (not the U.S.-Israeli ones imposed as part of the genocide campaign), and relinquishing governance of Gaza to a body of politically independent Palestinian technocrats — are all principles that Hamas had long accepted.
“On the more ambitious parts of his document (clearly drafted by the Israelis) requiring Palestinian surrender not only of weapons, but of Gaza itself to an Israel-aligned international consortium led by Trump and the execrable Tony Blair, Hamas and allied resistance groups simply remained silent.”

Hamas’ acceptance of the Trump Gaza plan may have surprised many, but its strategic logic aligns with numerous historical examples — some, even, of Israeli leaders

I have not doubts that Israel will find a way to carry on engaging in genocide in Gaza and doing its best to take more and more Palestinian land in the West Bank.
Besides, Israel economy is suffering, the cultural boycott of Israel is gaining pace and so it is starting to be starved of funds to carry on building settlements in the West Bank.
Also, more and more young Israelis are refusing to go back to fight in Gaza. Hence, sooner rather than later, Israel will need to stop the war in Gaza, if only to stop Israeli settlers from leaving Israel permanently.
The priority needs to be to stop the wholesale genocide going on in Gaza. In the long term Hamas knows it has probably already win as in 6 or 7 years Israel is going to be found at the ICJ guilty of genocide. Then is a matter of time before the State of Israel as we know it collapse, like Rodhesia and South Africa did.
