Rebranding US aid to Israel

JVL Introduction

As Mitchell Plitnick explains, the call by Benjamin Netanyahu and his allies in Congress for an end to U.S. aid to Israel means nothing of the kind.

Brand Israel in its current form is turning toxic but here’s a thought: spend the money but say it is for joint development and production projects instead.

“This can be presented as an investment in American jobs in partnership with Israel rather than as taxpayer assistance to a foreign government.”

The likely result will be to deepen U.S. military ties to Israel while avoiding isolationist calls not to spend US taxpayers’ money on increasingly unpopular foreign aid.

First step appears to be a new US-Israel compact in which both committing $1 billion to joint ventures, much of which will be geared to AI, cyberwarfare, and other new forms of killing, many of which have been battle-tested in Israel’s recent wars.

And Israel and the US will remain locked in tandem – just as they have been for the last sixty years or so.
